Old photographs are so much more interesting than contemporary ones. I forget things. For example, the agaves. I loved these plants and had others in the back garden. The grandchildren came along and I couldn’t risk them impaling themselves on the barbs. So I gave them all away to a contractor working on the outside cladding.

  1. I'm not sure of the varieties, Amy. I collected different plants at random, scratched myself several times, worried about our grandchild, and decided they were not for me. The workman got the pots too, though he was an excellent worker and deserved the extra. Looking at them now I was way, way too generous. Uncharacteristic.
